Forward Assist are always looking to improve the services we offer to Veterans to ensure that they are needs led, person centred and designed to help veterans and their families successfully transition back into civilian life.

Since 2013, we have led on and contributed towards several pieces of ground breaking research.

Below are examples of past projects and more can be found in our website archive.

WOMEN VETERANS

Forward Assist  has always championed the need for 'gender specific' support services for women veterans. We were delighted to help set up Salute Her UK as a registered charity in England and Wales, currently the only tri-service registered charity offering specialist trauma informed support to UK women veterans. In 2023 we are facilitating another women only veterans retreat in France. This is an on-going project to highlight a hidden population. Check out our video to see how it all started:

It exists to redress the disadvantages that the Armed Forces community faces in comparison to other citizens, and to recognise sacrifices made. In some cases this will require special consideration, especially for those who have given the most such as the injured and the bereaved… Help for Zeros Document

THE WINSTON CHURCHILL MEMORIAL TRUST

Veterans are notoriously bad at asking for help and may view survival ‘on the streets’, or when experiencing acute adversity, as a continuation of the field exercises or combat missions they took part in whilst on active service.

Couple this with a highly developed sense of pride and a stubborn independence not to viewed as a burden on society, it’s not surprising that civilian orientated support services find it difficult to maintain a meaningful relationship with ex forces personnel… The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Research Report
