Veterans Help Young People from Gateshead Connect with The Great Outdoors

A team of former Armed Forces Veterans working with North East charity Forward Assist and Youth Focus North East spent a day at Druridge Bay Country Park helping a group of young people from Felling in Gateshead connect with the Great Outdoors. The young people had the chance to learn all about beach fishing from our Angling Academy Head Coach Ed Turnbull and volunteers. After a fantastic lunch which was cooked on the outdoor events team BBQ by our Education Training & Employment lead the group took part in a fantastic project which involved placing over seventy bright orange Tibetan Peace flags next to the World war Two beach defences. The project is part of Forward Assists long term action plan to enable unemployed veterans to positively structure their time whilst making use of their transferable organisational/leadership skills that benefit the wider community and disengaged young people.
