The Veterans Challenge Football Tournament 2013

The Veterans Challenge Football Tournament took place on 30th June 2013 to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Funded by a grant from the MOD Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant scheme sixteen teams took part and several teams were made up of former service personnel now working in diverse settings such as the, Police Probation and Prison Service and a host of teams from the business sector and  local community organisations.It is estimated that over 300 people took part in the event with many spectators coming to cheer on the teams. Cllr Veronica Dunn, Armed Forces Champion for Newcastle City Council kindly gave up her Sunday afternoon to present trophies to all the participants.Stu Dunn last years event organiser and Wayne Bell pictures next to the trophy bench. Congratulations also go to Wayne Bell and Nick Mills both of whom successfully gained their Level 1 Football Coaching Qualification as part of this project. Wayne will be , on behalf of Forward Assist, organising regular football coaching sessions for other veterans throughout the rest of the year.
