The 2014 'Veterans Challenge Football Tournament'
Following the fantastic success of last year’s ’Veterans Challenge Football Tournament' the Forward Assist staff and volunteers are busy organising this year’s event which will take place on 29th June 2014 at The Blue Flames Sporting Centre in North Tyneside. This event is part of the North East 'Armed Forces Day' weekend of events to celebrate the contribution made by armed forces regulars, reservists and veterans past and present.
The family orientated event will see 20 six a-side teams (9 in a squad) play alongside teams of veterans, reservists and other community groups including the North East Business Sector.
This year we have been promised funding from Barclays Bank that will ensure at least 10 participants will be given the opportunity to gain a Level 1 Football coaching qualification as part of the programme. Similarly, Sunderland AFC Football Foundation has offered a bespoke coaching/training session at their training ground in Wearside in the week running up to the tournament. Veterans Projects associated with Everton FC and Liverpool FC have also committed to entering teams and are keen to take part in the one day event.
We are currently looking for event sponsors as we want to include wheelchair bound veterans in this year’s event. We are currently in negotiations with representatives from Hedley Court Rehabilitation Unit to ensure veterans with combat related injuries can take part but this will incur costs related to transport and accommodation. We are also very keen to promote the event to teams of female veterans and reservists.
If your company would like to sponsor any aspect of this project please get in touch with the Forward Assist planning team at email@example.com or call 0191 2943935 and speak to our Office Manager Steve Jackson . We would love to hear from you.
