Readman Family Foundation funds project for 'Elderly Veterans'

In July five veterans involved in the Forward Assist 'Cook2Give' project cooked a free three course nutritious meal for five elderly veterans at St Andrews Church Cafe in Newcastle City Centre. The Project funded by the Readman Family Foundation enables veterans that have graduated from from the 8 week 'Independent Living' cookery course provided by Baxter Storey Catering staff in Gosforth to identify and engage with  older veterans and their family members to reduce social isolation. The Cook2Give graduates (all former service personnel) are particularly keen to engage with elderly veterans living in supported accommodation or homes for the elderly.Transport is provided to and from the venue and is free of charge. This inter-generational project allows older veterans to mix with veterans from recent conflicts and in doing so share personal experiences and wisdom. We are currently planning our Veterans Christmas Dinner and any organisations that may wish to support this project please get in touch with us via this web site.
