Great War Greenhouse Renovation Project Backed by HRH Prince Charles 'Princes Foundation'
We are delighted to report that HRH Prince Charles has personally backed our plans to renovate the Grade II Listed Victorian Glasshouse within the grounds of Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland. The Princes Foundation has generously provided funding to 'kick start' the renovation project in partnership with the National Trust along with a host of other partners that include Northumbria Probation Trust and the Prison Service. Job Centre Plus are currently in the process of identifying unemployed veterans and the aim is to train the veterans in Heritage Construction Skills so as to improve their long term employability. Once completed the renovated Greenhouse will be put into use by the National Trust and community groups accessing the Community Gardens Project. Further renovation projects within the estate are in the pipeline followingr the successful completion of this unique collaboration between serving personnel, veterans and the civilian community. Ronnie Campbell MP was instrumental in making the link with HRH Prince Charles and was recently quoted as saying:
" I think this is a fantastic project, which will benefit so many people in the region and support the veterans in numerous ways. It will promote the local community and continue to benefit the public into the future".
We would like to hear from anyone living in the North East that could donate traditional tools or pass on specialist skills in joinery glazing and brickwork gained during a lifetime of work in the ship-building or mining industry.
