Forward Assist Benefactor Bernard 'Dusty' Miller Passes Away
It is with sad regret that we report that Aden Veteran Bernard' Dusty' Miller passed away after a long illness in late September 2013. Dusty was a keen fisherman and his pride and joy was a small fishing boat that had laid unused in a farmers field in Northumberland following a period of serious ill health five years ago. Dusty served with the 1st. Btn. Royal Northumberland Fusiliers during the the Aden Emergency between 1966-1967 and was a proud member of 'The Fighting Fifth'. Dusty and his wife Jen heard about the work of Forward Assist from Steve Jackson a Forward Assist Mentor and volunteer. In a selfless act of generosity he donated his boat as a renovation project for the future use of veterans that access the Charities support. The boat is currently receiving tender loving care at Amble Marina where minor structural repairs are being carried out before its moved to a warehouse in Felling where it will benefit from a complete makeover before being repainted in the Regimental Colours of the Northumberland Fusiliers by International Paints. The boat will be officially known as the 'Dusty Jen' and his widow Jen will officiate the traditional pre launch renaming ceremony. A debt of gratitude is extended to Dusty, Jen and all his friends and family and members of the Northumberland Aden Veterans Association for making this project possible.
