Forward Assist 'Community Benefit' Project Funded by Northumberland Police & Crime Commissioner
Our Fantastic Sports & Development Worker Simon Kristiansen (Former Royal Marines Commando) facilitated yet another innovative and far reaching Veteran Led 'Community Benefit' Project this week. With funding allocated by Vera Baird, Northumberland’s Police & Crime Commissioner. Forward Assist linked up with a group of Young People and Youth Workers though Hannah Shaw from Youth Focus North East. The aim of the project is to facilitate healthy diversionary activities for disengaged/disadvantaged Young People at risk of becoming involved in anti social or offending behaviour. By utilising former Military personnel as logistical planners and Team leaders under the supervision of Forward Assists highly qualified Staff Team, we are able to give disenfranchised Armed Forces Veterans the chance to become ‘active citizens’ within the communities in which they live. This promotes a sense of purpose and belonging whilst improving self confidence and self esteem. By actively participating in these initiatives’ Veterans are able to assimilate back into civilian life.
"What a fantastic event organised by Forward Assist in partnership with Youth Focus: North East and Blakelaw Community Centre. A great effort from the group and especially the young people who worked together as a team with the veterans to support each other and complete the course even through the downpour!"
