Armed Forces Day Veterans Charity Football Tournament
Forward Assist's 2014 Annual 'Armed Forces Day' Football Tournament took place on 29th June 2014. Sixteen 9- A Side Teams took part in the 'Knock Out' football tournament which ran from 10.00am - 3.00pm on a hot and sunny day in North Tyneside. The event celebrated the contribution made by veterans,reservists and serving armed forces personnel. Present at the event were teams from the business community ,community groups, veterans and serving soldiers. Alan Campbell MP, Mary Glindon MP, Mayor Norma Redfearn and Cllr Gary Bell the Armed Forces Champion for North Tyneside gave out trophies to the participating team members. A bouncy Castle and BBQ were available throughout the day and over £1,000 was raised and donated to both Forward Assist and Cancer Research. Teams from Sunderland AFC's Foundation of Light , Everton FC 'Inside Right' Veterans Project and NUFC's Foundation took part in the event along with a host of other local teams keen to support the Forward Assist Charity. The winning team on the day was Newcastle United's Foundation. Plans are already under-way for next years event which will be supported by Sunderland AFC's Foundation of Light.
