Angling & Art Therapy in Rural France
Forward Assist are once again indebted to the generosity and kindness of Richard Skerritt http://www.skerritts.co.uk/pages/richard+skerritt who once again allowed Veterans accessing the support of Forward Assist to stay at his fantastic property in France, free of charge, for seven days at the end of the Summer. Members of the Forward Assist Angling Academy were selected to go on the trip after 38 weeks of Angling Coaching Sessions came to an end. The trip was a way of recognising their ‘Community Spirit'. Part of the Lottery Funded scheme required Forward Assist to look at innovative ways give back to the community. By sharing their new found skills the Veterans worked with a variety of disadvantaged community Groups and were featured on local radio and in the Press. During their stay we also facilitated the opportunity for the Veterans to experience the therapeutic benefits of Art Therapy with Dawn Pretty. http://www.dawnpretty.com/ Dawn worked closely with the veterans and some of their art work was left at the Farmhouse for all to see! Forward Assists 'Community Benefit' Projects allow Veterans to re-ignite their leadership and logistical skills for the benefit of all. In doing so their transition back to the civilian world is made a little easier as the positive regard of others is such an important aspect of their assimilation. We look forward to returning with a different group of Veterans and their families in 2015.
